Hearing vs. Silence
Your silence will not protect you. – Audre Lorde
I had a topic to share today that I am going to bump to next week, into the new month of April that is straight ahead of us. The reason being something else is weighing in for me this morning as I begin to write these words to you, as always, I feel pulled to go with my heart.
The question for today is all around asking ourselves, when do we stay silent and when do we speak up? Speak our truth. Sometimes softly, and sometimes with all our might.
We are living in some turbulent times of division and uncertainty. Saturday, Ed and I participated in the No Kings Rally here in our community. Walking, talking and celebrating who we are with thousands of others because we are all good people and not the crazy radicals, we are accused of being day after day after day.
Feeling so unheard and highly disrespected by our government is something so many of us never thought we would feel in this country we have loved so deeply all our lives. Honoring the right to have a difference of opinion as we always have had the freedom to do in this country. Obviously, we were not alone as millions around the U.S. and beyond our borders stepped up to be heard.
Please know I don’t share this with you to take this on a political rant but more of the human perspective piece of this puzzle. I shared more on my Instagram if you care to take a listen plus a little video footage from the day.
Speaking our truth doesn’t just need to just happen in the world at large but even within ourselves and those we love. Being true with what you want and need in your life is such a human right and fundamental.
And then, this is where the importance of silence comes in. In sharp contrast to speaking out on Saturday, yesterday, on Sunday, I spent a good part of the day, within myself, potting up hundreds of seedling’s here at home. For me, this where I find my happy place where I allow myself to be at peace. When the world gets too noisy, I can hear myself as I get my fingers in the dirt. More in today’s video.
How about you? Where do you need to be heard and then where do you need silence? Finding the balance in what previously felt so unbalanced can give you the gateway to pause and reflect about what you truly want and need.
As we step out of March into April this week, here’s to being true to our inner selves and the world at large with mutual love and respect. Remembering it has to be a two way street in order feel true peace and love.
Plant often and with Love!
