Stepping Into New Environments
“A world without tomatoes is like a string quartet without violins.” — Laurie Colwin
Well, my friend, Mother’s Day has come and gone. And I will tell you that every muscle in my body is feeling it from a full day of gardening. I so appreciate the love that came my way yesterday and happy to report that my tomato babies are in the ground and hopefully on their way to a fruitful season ahead.
One of the things that I share in today’s video that I recorded yesterday is the importance of what is known as hardening off of tomato plants. And as I love to do there is such a great analogy between life in general and the hardening off process.
You have to harden off plants that have been indoors under the grow lights for some time because they are leaving a perfect environment. Perfect amount of light, water, and gentle breeze from the room fan.
And as it happened yesterday, we had an extremely warm 85 degree day with the lots of sunshine. Happy that I had taken precaution in the days before that to bring the tomato seedlings out for several hours a day to get acclimated. And didn’t plant them until later in the day.
What about when we have to step out of the cocoon of our home or other environment where we feel safe and go out into the crazy world as a new week begins? We can also harden ourselves by starting out in doses that won’t make us wither on the vine so to speak.
Stepping into new environments that will allow us to grow yet not be totally overwhelmed with what the world is bringing to us. In other words…be careful out there!
Wishing you a fruitful week ahead!
