Pick Up Every Stitch

Hope isn't the belief that everything will turn out perfectly. It's the courage to pick up the next stitch, even when it seems impossible some days.

I don't know about you, but on this 2nd day of November, I find myself taking deep breaths and trusting that this day, tomorrow, and the tomorrows after that will unfold as they most need to.

With so many unknowns floating around, sometimes coming back to the basics, like believing in the positive possibilities tomorrow can bring, makes all the difference.

Which brings me to the thought of picking up every stitch that is possible along the way.

Things get scary. Life throws us the unplanned, the unpleasant, and the unwanted. But hope can bring us a sense of peace, even when we don't know how everything will turn out.

Kindness matters, too.

Saturday night, in honor of my Halloween costume as a Butterfly Catcher, Ed and I strolled around downtown Boulder while I handed out little butterfly tattoos. The response surprised and delighted me.

One woman in particular began to cry when I gave her the little butterfly. She hugged me and told me how much she needed that little token of kindness in that moment.

Such a small gesture. Such a powerful reminder.

Hope does indeed come one stitch at a time.

This week's video takes you to a garden we visited in Chicago, where I was reminded that hope is something we can plant, nurture, and share.

And before I close, I want to welcome yet another beautiful new member to our family! My new great-grandnephew, David William. Sending so much love to him and his parents as they continue to stitch together the beautiful fabric of their family. 💙

Here's to the stitches that matter here in the month of November!
