Getting Soaked
Housework won’t kill you, but why take a chance? – Phyllis Diller
Happy Monday,
With all the heaviness in our country this past week, I thought I’d start with a little humor. Like Phyllis, I’m no great fan of housework—and sometimes the only way forward is to let the dishes soak. When the scrubbing feels overwhelming, soaking gives things time to loosen.
Yesterday, I let myself soak, too, sitting with the tears, the anger, and the ache of how divided our nation feels.
I’ve been classified as a liberal (you know someone on the “left”). To me, a liberal simply means believing in freedom, fairness, and the idea that societies can and should change for the better through compassion, inclusion, and justice.
Is that really so wrong? As a woman, I hold these values close—especially when I see women’s liberties being threatened. If caring about progress means not wanting to walk backward a hundred steps, then yes, I’ll gladly call myself progressive.
This morning, I walked my garden pathways step by step, remembering that peace isn’t found in rushing—it’s found in breathing, listening, and moving forward one foot fall at a time. I invite you to join me in today’s 4-Minute Meditation Moment (video here), where we can walk together and find some love and peace for our hearts.
We may not all agree on everything, but we can agree that no one’s freedoms should be taken away. Our differences have always been part of what makes us unique as a country. It’s only when fear and blame are stoked that division takes root.
Instead, let’s walk together in love and empathy. Isn’t that what makes for a happy life—for everyone?
So today, let’s soak what aches. Let’s give our spirits time to soften. And then, when the moment is right, let’s rise stronger and more resilient than ever before.
Possible? I sure hope so. 🌱
