Choosing Our Traditions

As this day passes, a new season is headed our way tomorrow. And with that, we wave goodbye to summer and hello to Fall or Autumn, whichever way you choose to call the season ahead.
A reminder this morning that our lives are full of choices in how we move through the seasons. Some love Fall the best. I am a summer lover, so I’m a bit sad to say goodbye to this season today. Some love Winter. And then there is Spring, always full of possibilities.
Which season do you love best?
The cool thing is that we get to choose. No one gets to mandate that choice for us.
Traditions are similar. We all have different traditions from the way we celebrate to how we look at our spiritual nature.
Traditions can feel like coming home.
I believe this is part of what makes the world so interesting. How boring would life be if we were all exactly the same?
One tradition Ed and I have is heading to Red Rocks Amphitheatre (picture above) every summer for at least one show. Last year, and again this past week, we saw Get The Led Out, a Led Zeppelin tribute band.
They were and are so good! We felt like Robert Plant and Jimmy Page were right there with us. What a tribute to them.
It was a perfect Red Rocks night.
I have been going to Red Rocks every summer since I moved to Colorado more than 40 years ago. Now that is a tradition!
Another tradition I have is beginning to get my garden ready for the season ahead. That starts with my pots. Now is the time to decide which ones will make their way indoors because, well, you never know what Colorado weather is going to do.

I believe honoring our choices and traditions is an important part of who we are. And every once in a while, it’s good to shake things up and try something different.
Who was it who said variety is the spice of life?
Whoever that was, I believe those words to be true.
So, take a deep breath. Enjoy these last moments of summer and get ready to embrace perhaps a few new traditions in the Fall/Autumn season ahead.
And remember most importantly, you do you.
