Sparking Your Legacy

Jacaranda trees in Kate Sessions Park, Pacific Beach, California

I didn’t do it. It was the plants that did it.  – Kate Sessions

During my adventures here in San Diego not only have I been loving the Jacaranda trees that are blooming everywhere, but I also had the opportunity to visit Balboa Park and learn more about the woman who brought Jacarandas and so many other trees here.

Kate Sessions was a true legend to the horticultural scene here in San Diego. I decided to do some digging and share more about her truly amazing story and tour the park in today’s video.

I believe that reciprocity, something we have talked about here in the Victory Letter in recent weeks, also had so much to do with the legend Kate Sessions left behind. She literally changed the landscape of the San Diego at the dawn of the 20th century by giving back so much to the city driven by her love of plants.

More about her story in the video but think about the fact that she made a deal with the city to run her nursery in the park (originally called City Park) and in return she would plant over 100 trees every year. And she was more than good on her word and planted sometimes up to 300 trees a year around the city. Reciprocity.

I also had the opportunity this week to tour several amazing gardens of women here in San Diego who today are inspiring others to grow gardens in new and unique ways. Those videos will be coming up in the weeks ahead in the new series I am launching with this Kate Sessions video, Gardens and the Women Who Grow them.

Sometimes we have to step outside in our gardens or in nature somewhere, clear our heads and remind ourselves just how special each one of us truly are. To think clearly about what we can contribute to this world with the passions that run within our veins.

Remembering that doing unique and special things requires belief, courage and perhaps more than anything confidence.

If you find your confidence waning, find the sparks that will bring your true passions fully to life, whether they have been percolating for a while or you need to find some new ones. A reminder I have a low cost 28 Day Confidence Challenge that can help you on your way.

So how about it? Ready to let your sparks fly? As I head back home tomorrow, I look forward to getting back into my own garden, work on my Good Dirt book and see what else I can bring to life. How about you?

Have a great week ahead!

Plant often and with Love!
