Changing Expectations to Intentions
Life-transforming ideas have always come to me through books, through writing, and through meditation. — Bell Hooks
Welcome back from the long 4th of July weekend!
As we head back into life that is perhaps less fun filled, many things can knock us off our feet when we least expect it. Someone says something you weren’t expecting. You get charged extra for something you weren’t expecting. The government does something you weren’t expecting, and the list goes on and on.
So, what can we do? Change our expectations? That for sure can be easier be said than done. And this my friend is where meditation and finding yourself grounded as today’s meditation video promotes to assist you in looking towards new intentions to move you past your expectations.
And... you can get a glimpse of my garden in the process. 💚
Where an expectation is a feeling, one you think “should” happen no matter what, that can be filled with a good deal of stress over things you can't control in the process. Especially expecting people or situations to be certain ways that you want them to be that is not in alignment with what you actually want.
Whereas an intention is something more under your control as you wish or desire for something to turn out a certain way but are not obsessed by the mere thought of it. To the contrary you are simply putting positive vibes into those thoughts and if it turns out that way…fantastic.
Think of the intentions you have for this week ahead as more of a desire. Sitting with good intentions, as you ground yourself with this week’s video above can take your mind to the happy place, we all need to go as we leave the sometimes not so great realities of the world behind. Even if its for four short minutes. The funny thing is that intentions usually have such better results then expectations.
Here’s to finding more reasons to smile in the week ahead!
